(Four Months Prior)

"Boy, Len, lookit Lloyd Bridges go!" Laverne crooned, shoveling in a handful of popcorn.

"Eh, he ain't so great," Lenny responded, stuffing popcorn into his own mouth. "What's he got that I don't?"

"A nice jaw...fabulous teeth...dreamy eyes..." Laverne began, but Lenny hushed her. "Aww, I was just gonna get to his nice bu.." At that point, Lenny cut off her speech with a long, deep kiss. When she pried herself from his grip, she gasped, "Lenny, no."

He pouted and crossed his arms over his chest, "Why?"

"Len, we've been through this a hundred times. 'Sides, don't ya remember? Boyfriends come and go..."

"Yeah, yeah, 'friends are forever'," Lenny stood, dumping popcorn all over the floor, "Well, Laverne, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go find someone who ain't gonna just be my friend. If I wanna make out durrin' Godzilla versus Rodan, she'll make out! If I wanna..."

"Len, this is the longest goodbye speech ever," She snapped.

He glowered at her, "Goodbye, Laverne." He said, and exiting the apartment in a huff.

"Don't be such a sorehead, Len!" She yelled at the closed door. But Lenny never poked his head through the door. When she yelled up the dumbwaiter after him, he gave her the silent treatment. By the time Shirley came back from her date with Carmine, Laverne had reached a level of calm polemics.

"My, don't you look relaxed!" Shirley cooed, praising Laverne for her silent but tense posture on the sofa.

"I should be. I think I finally got rid of Lenny's crush on me." And Shirley behaved as though this were a wonderful thing.

Months later, it seemed a horrible thing. Laverne mopped her tears away with the back of her coat; driving with one hand on the wheel, speeding, she sped away to Oshkosh.

Stupid! How dumb could she be, to let go the one guy who had treasured her!

Lenny was her guy. Now she would have to convince him of her love.
