And yes, I couldn't quite figure out how to spell the name of Lenny's sovereign mini-nation, so I improvise.
Chapter intentionally short, for a stronger impact.

Lenny stared blankly at the volumes set out before him. There were portraits of blunt-featured, blonde women in heavy royal ermine.
"These are the royal portraits of Carstan Boit Kosnowski." Explained the older woman. "Your grandfather. He was the high ruling and most excellent fife of the county."
Lenny looked at the portrait blankly. "He was real handsome."
"Yes. During World War One, he was evacuated from Poland. Affairs in Kulakowski were severely strained by the War, so we could not guard him correctly. In 1921, he went against royal protocol and married a farmer's daughter. When he died, the title was passed down to your mother."
Lenny frowned. "Yeah, I know. And Mamma...left. Th' title came ta me through default."
The woman nodded. "Katerina...left you when you were five. On your fifth birthday."
Lenny's shame at this was obvious, and he said nothing.
"The year of her disappearance, she attempted to blend into the city of New York. Police officials found her on the street." She showed Lenny an ID; his mother's beleaguered expression telling a tale of woe he could not yet comprehend.
"When the Royal County of Kosnowski discovered the fate of your mother, we had her transferred to the King's Ward in Krakow."
Lenny's voice shook as he said. "Ya mean...she's really in Poland? This whole time, she's been here?"
The older woman nodded. "And I can take you to her...if you choose to trust in me." Her wizened features changed. "You...do trust me, Count Leonard?"
