And yes, I couldn't quite figure out how to spell the name of Lenny's sovereign mini-nation, so I improvise.

Lenny watched the woman in quiet impasse. "I got no reason not to trust ya."
The woman's smile gentled. "Ahh. I shall help you with this." She waddled over to a chest of drawers, withdrawing a chain. Lenny's face showed very clearly his alarm; the green-jeweled necklace glittering at the end of the silver chain was hauntingly familiar.
"My momma's necklace." He said, very softly.
She nodded. "Perhaps she would do well, on seeing you."
As if in a trance, Lenny nodded his head, following her out the door and to a waiting car.

The King's Ward was, for all intensive purposes, the loveliest mental ward Lenny had ever seen in his life. With its highly polished surfaces gleaming away, coated in carpets of delicate blossoms. In the highest room of the building, lying in an ornate bed, there lay Katerina Kosnowski.
Lenny stared at his mother in contemplative silence. She had run as far as she could, on what she had, only to end up here, prone but meticulously cared for, like a beloved doll. Her pale blonde hair lay on the pillows, scattered like hay; her pale pink lips spread open like petals, unmoving.
"Mamma?" He heard himself say. She didn't move, but he took her hand and started to talk. "Uh, I know ya can't hear me...can ya?" She didn't stir, and he groaned. "Mama, its Lenny. I'm..." his voice changed in tone, becoming stronger. "A Count now. I'm takin' care of Kulakowski real good." He took a deep breath. "I got married. I married Laverne, an' I love her. We're gonna go back home soon, back to the states." He released her hand. "I'm real angry at ya, ma. Why did ya have to leave? Dad never did nothin' wrong. So it had to be me, right? I mean, I ain't never done nothin' right..." He snorted, turning from the bed. "Why am I talkin'? Ya can't answer me."
Suddenly, her hands shot out blindly for him.
"Mama?" His voice was filled with sudden panic.
"Len-ny." She whispered. "Save-yourself."
Before Lenny could comprehend her words, the world went black.
