Fewer worshippers waited for them when they returned to the apartment, even fewer members of the media. An elderly woman who sat carefully arranging crosses upon the lawn informed them that there had been a suicide on the Golden Gate; the woman survived, claimed she had seen a heavenly golden light. The worshipers had found a new cult to cling to.
Laverne was somewhat disappointed, even more to see that Carmine and Squiggy had taken off to see a movie, and Shirley lay sleeping on the sofa.
"I'll get some leftovers," Lenny whispered, creeping to the kitchen and withdrawing some food from the refrigerator. They retreated to Laverne's bedroom, where they ate.
"Y'know, Len, before I died, I wouldn't've thought about eatin' up here with you like this."
He smirked, "Yeah, I guess dyin' does help put stuff into place."
She sighed, "Len, it ain't just that. I...I feel like I came back for a reason."
"What?"
"If I tell, you'll laugh."
"Nah! I promise I won't!"
She sighed, "I..feel like I came back fer you."
He laughed, and she hushed him, "see?!"
"Vernie, I ran after ya for years. I went across the country in an ice cream truck fer you. And you have to die to tell me that you love me."
Embarrassed, she admitted, "yeah."
His jaw dropped, "you love me?"
"Len...I've loved ya for years. I never had the courage to admit it. You commin' with me today just helped seal the fact that I love you like I loved Randy," his eyes glimmered, as that was a high honor, "love you enough to want to be with you."
"Be?" Lenny gasped, "Vernie..."
She looped her arms around his neck, "please, please, just help me forget..."
She kissed his tender lips, and his body melted against hers. He pushed her gently away.
"Yer sure?" He quested.
She nodded.
With tender reluctance, he pressed her to the bed...
