Lenny's grip increased in pressure upon her prone hand.

"...And then what did they do, Miss DeFazio?"

She took a deep breath. "Raped me. One at a time. Then all at once."

He nodded, "There was penetration?"

She glared, "I wouldn't say 'rape' if there weren't!" She snapped.

Her lawyer sighed as he read over his notes. "I'll be honest, Miss DeFazio; this is the strangest case I've ever undertaken."

She nodded, "Hey, I understand; it's not every day someone dies and comes back from the dead."

He nodded, "Anyway, what else did they do?"

"Burn me with a lighter," She showed him a scar on her shoulder, "hit me with a pool cue. Then slit my throat." She looked at Lenny, "Len, you're squeezing me to death."

"Sorry!" He dropped her hand as though it had burned him. With a patient sigh, she turned to his attorney. "You got the morgue photos?"

He nodded, "This should be an open and shut case. They still had a bloody knife on them when they were picked up."

She felt Lenny tremble, "I gotta go, excuse me." He ran from the room, and she knew exactly what he was about to do.

She smiled expectantly, "You want me to pick them out of this book?" She tured to the silent, watchful officer standing watch beside her.

He nodded. She flipped open the portfolio of mug shots and felt horror and revulsion sweep over her body.

She swallowed harshly, "That one. This one. And him, here."

"Are you sure?"

She nodded, "Yeah."

"And you'd be willing to testify to that in a court of law?"

She nodded.

"Very well." He smiled, "We'll call you back in for your deposition on Monday."

She nodded, walking out of the room on shaky legs.

Dopey, She thought to herself, You're lucky. You lived, and now those bastards are gonna go up the river for a very long time.

Renewed confidence filled her. She found Lenny leaning against a wall beside the men's room, his complexion still green.

Gently, she took his hand.

"Let's go home."
