"...Ladies and gentlemen, the graduating class of 1972!"

Laverne, wearing her best blue suit, clapped enthusiastically as Lenny stood among the elite of his class. He hadn't graduated even near the top of his class, but in the end had passed, beautifully. He was a college graduate!

The warmth of the May morning seemed to burn through her navy lawn jacket. Beside her, Ollie beamed proudly. She watched him cautiously, somewhat afraid of offending him. Her earlier bravado had worn off on the realization that only two people were truly close to Lenny; one being his father.

The other is his sister, who was already micro-managing their wedding in Poland.

Laverne wondered to herself how a personality such as Lenny could've come out of a house so filled with A Type personalities. Her thoughts were cut off as he planted a kiss upon her lips.

"Did ya see that! I didn't fall off the stage er nothin!" He crowed, grinning.

She hugged him, "I saw, Len."

"Leonard, you did it, son!" His father crowed, and the twosome shook hands. Over Laverne's shoulder Rhonda snapped a Polaroid, as Squiggy tried to squirm around her and hug his friend.

From the corner of her eye Laverne noticed Shirley, who was pulling along a very stoned Carmine. As he tumbled to the ground, she admonished him gently, as she would a child.

She groaned inwardly; Poland would be a good change of pace for all of them. Carmine would have poor access to drugs; Shirley could relax and escape Walter (she had won a preliminary court battle that allowed her to take Veenie out of the country for the wedding). Squiggy and Rhonda could concentrate on the conception of their first child. Her father could get away from his political career.

And she and Lenny would be married.

She grinned goofily to herself.

"No one told Rhonda it would take so long to get to Poland!" complained Rhonda.

Laverne sighed, "Just lie back and enjoy the ride.". Laverne told her, for the umpteenth time. She had always been phobic about planes, well, until she piloted one. Now it was easier to reclaim her own sense of safety and watch the world swim by. Her friends, similarly, took lazy attitudes, occupying themselves with books. Eventually Rhonda and Squiggy crept off to the bathroom; she really didn't want to know what they were doing in there.

As they approached their descent, and Rhonda and Squiggy emerged from the bathroom with very happy smiles, Shirley poked Lenny and requested that they switch seats.

Lenny left quickly, buckling in beside a dozing Carmine, and Shirley began to urgently whisper to Laverne as they buckled in.

"I'm marrying Carmine." She said, as the plane hit land.

"What?!" Laverne blurted.

"Shhsh!" She whispered frantically. No one had heard them, and Laverne had no time to comment on her friend's words, for they had taxied to a stop.

Her eyes bugged out; on the tarmac stood a hundred or so Poles, all bearing signs and pictures of she and Lenny. Faintly, she could hear them chanting Lenny's name. As she rubbed her eyes in disbelief, a jaunty, white-haired man entered the plane's cabin. He wore and old, black tuxedo and with a huge grin announced.

"Welcome to Poland, Count Kosnowski!"
