"A man? She's not even six yet..."

"Don't ask me, please." Lenny took a long, deep draught from his coffee. "What the hell did Daisy say to her?"

"Beats me." Carmine sipped the rest of his own coffee. "Daisy...she was always a wild little girl. Even when she was three and you and Laverne were drivin' around in that old Bug..."

Lenny smiled, bittersweet memories washing over him. "She never wanted ta sit still."

"I remember. She used to dance around and sing all the time."

"Yeah...our song was 'Lookin' Out My Backdoor.'"

"Oh yeah; I remember. You and Laverne were really into Credence back then."

"Weren't we all?"

At that point, the door to the restaurant flew open, and Laverne walked through, holding a small urn. Her eyes were filled with tears, and Lenny stood to help her.

"Daisy?"

"Daisy."

Lenny took the urn from his wife's hand. "She's so small."

"She was always small. I don't know how she came from you and me."

Carmine coughed in discomfort. "Yeah, I think I'm bein' a third wheel."

"Daisy loved you too, Carmine." Laverne protested.

"Yeah...but..." He stared at the urn Laverne held, unable to adequately express his fear and the general malaise he held about death.

"It's okay. Shirly's outside. Go home." Lenny said absently.

"Yeah.." Carmine said, backing away toward the door. "If you guys need anything, uh...you know how to reach me."

He disappeared without being noticed.

"Whatt're we gonna do with her?" Lenny wondered.

"We're gonna have her ashes scattered. But we gotta do a memorial service first." She shook her head. "I was plannin' on a funeral, but then I realized she wouldn't wanna be buried and...you're mad I decided to cremate her, aren't ya?"

Lenny shook his head. "You did all of the funeral stuff yourself, Vernie; I been so busy with Natashya that I ain't had time to think. Daisy never liked feelin' tied down. This is right."

She leaned against him. "Whatt're we gonna do now, Len?"

A knock sounded at the door. "We're closed!"

"Even to me?"

Laverne about flew from her husband's embrace. When she met blue eyes and a tender set of arms, she about dissolved in tears.

Mike smiled. "I didn't think you'd be happy to see me."
