"Whatt're you doin'?!" Laverne snapped, pulling away from Lenny's touch, "Ain't that you?"
"Nah," He shrugged. "I'm taller."
Laverne glared at him, "What's goin' on?"
Lenny shrugged, "Me an' Donna ain't goin' through with it."
"Why not?"
His expression was sheepish, "I just found out she don't like guys the way I thought she did."
Laverne's jaw dropped. She gulped, and then said, "Well, that's good news." She grinned, "I got somethin' ta tell ya, Len."
"Really? What?"
Laverne took a deep breath, then said, "I...I got feelin's for ya."
He smiled blandly, "That's nice."
"No...don't ya..." She grabbed him by the head and pressed a long, slow kiss to his expectant lips. Lying a hand upon her upper arm, she stroked the roughened flesh. "See? Goosebumps."
He laughed.
She couldn't believe it. Laughing at her!!
"What?! Ain't this what ya always wanted?"
Lenny glared, "Oh yeah. Fer years." He swallowed hard, leaving his hand on her arm, "Right now."
"But?"
He shook his head, "Doncha get it, Vernie!?" he snapped, "Don't ya know that I felt every little thing ya did against me? Every time ya went out with another guy, some little part a me died." His smiled turned malicious, "How did it feel, when I was with Donna? What was the revengence like for you?"
"Like someone was cuttin' my heart out." She said miserably.
"Good. That's how I felt fer a long time." He pulled his arm away from her touch, "I just dunno if I wanna go through it again."
"What?"
"You HURTIN' me! Ya always hurt me!" He snapped, his hand shaking, "I'm sorry, Vernie, but that's how it's always been, between you an' me; me wantin' you, us teasin' each other, but you never give in." He snapped, "And I ain't gonna be the one to do it this time.."
"But I just..."
"But yer gonna use this against me," He said, "Yer gonna come back an' say I made you come all this way an just hurt ya." He turned, walking from her, "Maybe we could work out, Vernie. We just gotta come back on the same footin'." He said, sadly, "But it still don't look real even to me, after what I did."
He walked away from her, leaving Laverne to collapse in a sobbing heap on the rug.

"We can't be late!" Shirley lamented, kicking at the car's flattened tire.
Carmine rolled his eyes, "Shirl, I can't fix things any faster."
"Oh, I knew this would happen!" Cried Shirley as she wrung her hands, "We're going to be late, and Laverne's going to marry Lenny Kosnowski!!"
"What's so bad about that?" Carmine mumbled.
"What did you say, Carmine?"
Carmine threw down his wrench, standing up at the side of the road, "I said, what's so bad about that?! Lenny's a good guy, he tries hard; he's even got a steady job, which is more than I can say about most of Laverne's other guys. What's more, he gives a damn about her."
"But he's..."
"Filthy? Yeah, a little bit, but that ain't nothin' time don't cure." He leaned back against his car, "Shirl, you know what the problem is? You're actin' like Laverne's you?"
"Carmine, I never..."
"You're puttin' everything YOU want on her; the Doctor, the big house in the country, the dogs...Maybe Laverne wants to live for the rest of her life on Knapp street, with Lenny and a cat? You ever ask her?"
Shirley sputtered.
"It ain't that she don't got her own balloon, Shirl. She's got one: it's just different from yours. And maybe it don't fly as high. But we all got dreams." He said, "Maybe I ain't yer dream. Gonna tell me you ain't happy with me?"
Shirley's eyes misted over, "You know that isn't true."
He pecked her lips. "Then maybe we should just sit here and wait for a tow." He stretched out behind the wheel, whistling an Eddie Cochrane tune.
Shirley's tense stance melted...slowly. Finally, smiling too, she climbed into place beside Carmine, feeling his arm wrap itself around her as the night slipped by.
