"Yes."

Shirley released a deep breath, and Laverne slumped against Lenny in relief.

"Fine..you'll need to come downtown and fill out a report. We'll return you with a full police escort."

"Sure, anything to keep Ogden away from me." Rosie scooped up her fur, wrapping it around her neck, "Hey. DeFazio, Feeney...thanks."

"Any time, Rose."

"And Greenbaum...you can keep the couch, if you want."

Rosie smiled, awkwardly, "I guess I'm gonna have to, for awhile. I can't go home."

Laverne collapsed onto the couch as Rosie and Norman left the apartment, "Whoo!"

"You shouldn't work so hard, Laverne. Pregnant women need rest." Lenny said, sitting down beside her.

"Yeahh.." Laverne said absently, her eyes fixing meaningfully on Shirley. The phone rang.

"Hello? Oh, Can't it wait until tomorrow, Carmine? No...OK, I'll be there." Shirley hung the phone up, "Carmine's waiting for me in the park. He wants to talk."

"Oh, Shirley...would you mind me coming with you? I need to take some pictures to go with my new article on the leaves turning."

Shirley smiled, "That would be nice, Richie." She pulled on her coat.

"I promise I won't stick too close to you."

"Don't worry about it. Carmine and I won't be talking for too long."

"Why?"

"Because, after he hears what I have to say he won't want to speak to me again."

Richie couldn't cover his surprise as they left the apartment.

Lenny sat by Laverne, "Can I get ya somethin'? Soda crackers or Ginger Ale?"

"Len, I'm not havin' a baby, and I don't have a tummy ache, so.."

"Vernie.." He looked into her face, "You ain't lyin' to me, are you? Then who's..."

"It's a long story. I'll tell you later, OK?" She looked to the window, "After Shirley comes back, even. Just not now."

At that moment, Fonzie barreled into the apartment. She didn't need to look at his lipstick-stained cheeks to know he had been with another girl. Her cheeks flamed in embarrassment.

"You OK, DeFazio?"

"Yeah," She bent to pick up the discarded phone, "Rosie and Ogden fought a little."

"Fought a lot, it looks like." He glanced around the apartment. Lenny sat silently, as always overwhelmed by his admiration of Fonzie.

"Where have you been, Fonzie?"

"Oh..Just arrangin' a little bachelor party." He shrugged, "Ey, We ain't married yet, right?"

"Right." She said sadly.

"And I know you're lookin', too, huh?" He couldn't keep the guilt out of his voice.

"Right, Fonz." She said absently.

"I mean, whatt're you doin' here with the skinny guy?"

"Fonzie, I'm real tired. Shirl and I have to figure out what we're gonna do, now that Rosie's livin' here. We had all these plans to head to California in a week, but that's all messed up."

"Woah, California? No way; the Fonz can't leave the Cunninghams!"

Laverne shook her head, sadly, "That's the point; one of us is going to have to choose, here. And I don't think I wanna be the one to do it. Cause I'm always the one to give up."

"Yeah, I think I'm gonna be going," Lenny said absently, leaving the couch and trying to creep to the door.

"Hey, I've got a garage here, I got family here. I got a cousin who looks up to me."

"I don't have that, but I got a whole world out there, waitin' for me." She sighed, "Fonz, this ain't workin' out. If I stay here, I'm gonna be nothin' but a truck washer my whole life."

"Ey, I'll take care of ya."

"I don't want you to.."

He gripped her upper arm, "I said I'll take care of ya!"

"You're hurting me."

"Hey!" A voice came from the doorway, "Take your hands off of her!"

"Lenny!" She whispered. It sounded as though she were relieved to see him...

Shirley stood alone in the moonlight, as Richie Cunningham meandered through the park, taking pictures. She saw Carmine by a bench, and ran to embrace him. He stiffened in her arms.

"Carmine.."

"Shirley...What did you say, about bein' pregnant before?"

She gulped, "I am."

He stared at her blankly, "How did that happen?"

"The usual way." She coughed.

He shook his head, "Who did you give it to, huh? I worked on you for ten years and I never got to second base, and some guy..."

"Well, I didn't give it willingly..."

"What are you saying?"

"What do you care?" She snapped, "From the tone of your voice, even if I told you the truth you wouldn't believe me."

"Which is?"

"I was taken. Against my will."

He stared into her eyes. "You're a liar, Shirl." He said, flatly. "A liar, and a slut."
