Laverne raced to the door, grabbing her bat, "You ain't getting' in here, Ogden."

"The fuck I'm not!" he yelled, outrage in his tone, "You either let me in or I'm calling the cops."

"I've already got Norman Hughes on the line!" Laverne snapped, bluffing as Rosie crawled to the phone, hauling it down from the counter.

"You would...God knows, you've screwed your way through the force," He snapped. Laverne's face turned scarlet with shame.

"Leave us alone, Ogden." Shirley said firmly.

"Yeah, go!" Laverne said. "Go, or I call my fiancé!"

"Ohhh, the great Fonnnnnzie." He drawled. Suddenly, there was a squawk, the sound of an argument, and one loud smacking nose. A fist rapped at the door.

"Girls!" Lenny shouted, "Lemme in!"

Laverne's fingers flew to the locks, twisting everything open. Lenny almost leapt through the door, admitting him.

"Rose, you callin' the cops?" The redhead nodded as she clung to the receiver, "Lenny, that was so brave!" Laverne blurted out. She hugged her friend, his body stiffening in response.

"I heard a lotta yellin'." He shrugged. "Geez, Rose, what happened ta ya?"

Her answer came in response to what she told the police, "My husband beat me up!"

"What the heck's goin' on?!" Lenny cried out, dazed by the huge number of changes his life had undergone in such a short number of days.

"Len," She said, softly, "Come with me." For once, she was the one leading him into the bedroom.

Once the door had closed, Laverne began, "Len, I got a lot to say..."

"Yeah, well, start with why yer denyin' me my kid."

Laverne stiffened, "For one, there ain't a kid."

His eyes were dry, "I don't believe ya."

"Len...I know ya ain't gonna believe me, but it's true. I ain't pregnant."

"If ya weren't pregnant," He responded, "I'd smack ya. You oughta be glad you are."

She sighed, "That ain't what's important now. What is, is that Rose is in trouble with Ogden. We gotta protect her."

A shout from the living room drew them out of the room. There, they found Richie Cunningham standing with his hands on his hips, trying to look tough but failing.

"What's wrong? We heard something over the wire at the radio station..I rushed over when I heard," Guilt crossed his face, "Fonzie was...mm, busy."

Rose paled, "I thought there weren't gonna be any press people."

"Rose, this is my friend Richie," Shirley gave him a meaningful look, "He won't publish anything that shouldn't be published."

"Oh, sure," Said Richie, "Some things shouldn't be said, after all."

"...like Rose's being beaten by her husband."

He stopped, "Wait a minute! That's serious...that's something the public should hear about."

Rose shook her head, "No! I'll be ruined!"

"It's more important that you tell the truth, Rose. Far more important that everyone see what kind of creep Ogden is!"

"You don't get it, Feeney; don't get the way people look down at you, when they see you've done something wrong. The society column would have me for breakfast!"

At that point, to Laverne's disbelief, Officer Norman Hughes entered the living room, "Which one of you is Rose Greenbaum?" He asked by rote.

Rosie, reluctantly, raised her hand.

"Is the man in the hallway your husband?"

She nodded.

"Then can you confirm the allegations you made over the phone about him?" He looked into her face, "Jesus, look at you...you don't even need to do that." He said, "We're taking him in for disorderly conduct, but if you want him to stay there you're going to have to press charges. Now can you confirm that Mr. Greenbaum punched you? Hit you? Slapped you?"

Rosie's eyes darted back and forth in her head. Then she took a deep breath and said...
