SETTING IN TIMELINE: Milwaukee, pre-Lenny's Crush
SPOILLER/SUMMARY: What appears to be a severe case of the flu leaves Lenny with strange powers, leaving others to question what the true nature of a miracle is.

His eyes bulged out as the heavy, smooth skin of his suddenly animate lizard crawled across his chest. Lenny did the only thing he could do; scream.
The noise caused Laverne to arrive on the scene, and when she saw a living iguana making its way across Lenny's shoulder she groaned.
"I told Squiggy NOT to get ya a pet!" She picked up the lizard, which squirmed frantically in her hands.
"He didn't!" Lenny whined.
"Then where did he come from?" Laverne ask, dropping the gyrating lizard back onto Lenny's stomach. Unperturbed, the iguana continued what had been a small, deliberate stroll up Lenny's body. He picked the lizard up and put it on his pillow.
"It's Jeffery."
She stared at him in slack jawed disbelief. "Len, don't lie to me!"
"I ain't ever lied ta you!" He protested. At that, he tossed off the covers and got out of bed...nearly falling in the process.
"Don't hurt yerself!" Laverne demanded, "Ya ain't been outta bed fer weeks!"
The world was righted and Lenny's feet were suddenly steady; he gently shoved Laverne out of the way and stomped
Laverne padded after him, following him back down to the girl's apartment. There, she found him on his knees, rooting through a basket of garbage while Shirley stood by the stove; holding a wooden spoon in a threatening manner and screaming.
"What is he doing, Laverne?!"
"Ya think I know?" Laverne tried to grab Lenny by shoulder but he shook her off. "Len! You're actin' crazy!" Laverne protested.
"I ain't actin' crazy!" He shouted back, "Just lemme..."
Laverne glowered by his side until, suddenly, he produced a dead bouquet of flowers, sending a shower of garbage across the clean kitchen floor.
Shirley squealed, and Laverne started yelling at him. But they both quieted as, before their saucer-wide eyes, the dead flowers bloomed back to their former lushness. The stems thickened, turned green; the colors in each bloom became vibrant. New petals sprouted where gaps had formed, and others had rotted away and died. When he handed the bouquet to Laverne, it reminded him of the ones he'd made her in their childhood from blossoms yanked out of window boxes; fresh, green, lively. Her numb hand allowed it to tumble to the ground.
Shirley had a more vivid reaction. She fainted dead away, face-first, into a pile of old spaghetti.
