"Ollie Kosnoski," Frank snorted, "The guy who called my daughter a tramp."
"Frank DeFazio," Ollie retorted, "The man who said my son was a pig."
The men turned to their children and asked, "What the hell is he doin' here?"
"Len told me that he wanted to introduce me to the love of his life..." His eyes widened, "No way in hell!"
"Uh.." Lenny squirmed.
"My Muffin said she had something important to tell me..." His eyes widened, "No!"
Laverne picked up her casserole dish and, in a desperate voice, intoned, "Would anyone like some a this egg stuff?"
"I don't believe it! That girl's been leadin' you around by the what-notes for ten years!"
"Lavenrne, I thought I raised you wit some brains!"
At that point, Edna whistled, bringing the entire room to a standstill, "Allright! The kids are going to tell us in their own time what's going on between them. Right now, we're having brunch."
"No.."
"FRANK," she said sharply, "We're having BRUNCH."
Frank smiled wanly as he sat down behind his kitchen table, "We're having brunch."
The DeFazios settled themselves, as did Lenny. Finally Ollie shrugged and settled himself between his son and Edna.
The brunch passed in silence, with the occasional moment of praise from Frank to his daughter, and a pout from Ollie in request of more paprika.
Food proved a good excuse to avoid conflict: Laverne tried to drag out the process for as long as possible. Lenny, unconsciously, wasn't cooperating, as he had already gobbled up two portions already.
Finally, Ollie pushed back his plate, "OK. What's so important?"
Frank followed suit. "Yeah. Tell me. Now."
Laverne looked to her fiancé in desperation and Lenny, with a full mouth, said, "Well...dad..."
"Pop.."
They said together, simultaneously, "We're getting married."
Neither of them was prepared for the reactions they encountered.
