Scene 1: Shirley and Carmine are coming back from a date.
Shirley unlocks the door and walks in. Shirley and Carmine stand between the door way.
Carmine: Well, I had a good time Shirl.
Shirley: Yeah, me too. Thank you for taking me out!
Carmine: Well it was nothing. Hope we can do it again sometime.
Shirley: Yeah.
They stood there for a minute not sure of what to do next.
Carmine: Well, I guess I'll see ya later.
Shirley: Yeah, goodnight.
Before she closed the door, Carmine reached over and they kissed passionately for a few minutes and he pulled away and left.
Shirley stood there for a second and then closed the door with a little smirk on her face. When she turned around she jumped back, for Laverne was standing in the middle of the floor smiling at her with a "look" in her eye.
Shirley: How long have you been standing there?
Laverne: Long enough to see that little kiss.
Shirley: Oh Laverne, come on don't make fun of me because I didn't invited him to rip each other's clothes off!
Laverne: Well, it would be about time! I mean, all these years and all you do kiss for 2 minutes and stare at each other then leave. I mean come one, do you even use you tongue? No, no, have you ever even used your tongue?
Shirley: LAVERNE! Please!
Laverne: Look, Shirl, your little kissy thing is sweet, but what I guess I'm trying to say is, you and Carmine have been going together ever since you were in high school, and you haven't even gotten far.
Shirley: Well like I've said before Laverne, I treat my body as a temple, and you chose to treat yours as an amusement park!
Laverne: Yeah well Shirl it's different when you've been dating a guy for a REALLY long time. How many years would it be now?
Shirley: Well, it doesn't matter! I don't know Laverne, it seems like maybe we aren't the same anymore.
Laverne: What do you mean?
Shirley: I don't know. Nevermind!
Laverne: Look, Shirl if you think there's a problem, go talk to him and maybe get around to it while you're at it!
Shirley: Get around to what?
Laverne: Aww, you know ((wink))
Shirley: LAVERNE!
Next day: Laverne is sitting on the couch waiting for Shirley to come down stairs. She has something important to tell her.
Shirley gets down the stairs and sits on the chair across from Laverne.
Shirley: So what did you want to tell me?
Laverne: Well, I'm gonna be. Going away for a while.
Shirley: What?!
Laverne: Yeah, uh, I have to go visit my relatives in Italy.
Shirley: So am I not invited?
Laverne: No.
Shirley: What!?
Laverne: Well see, pop only got two tickets. He didn't even get one for Edna. Anyway, we won't have any fun. We have to stay at a cheap motel. The doors get stuck and everything so you might as well just stay inside unless you really got to go somewhere.
Shirley: How long are you staying?
Laverne: Just a few days. Like 4 or 5.
Shirley: Well what am I supposed to do for 4 or 5 days?
Laverne: Well, invite Carmine over!
Shirley: Oh, so is that what all of this is about?
Laverne: NO NO! You've got it all wrong! I was just saying, we really gotta visit my relatives! I was just suggesting you invite him over and y'all can do something ((wink))
She sees the look on Shirley's face.
Laverne: or you could just do that thing you did at the door the other day, ya know whatever!
Next scene: Laverne's leaving day
Everyone is over at Laverne and Shirley's house saying goodbye o Frank and Laverne. Before they leave, Laverne walks over to Carmine without Shirley seeing.
Laverne (whispering): Hey, maybe you and Shirl can get together now or something. Ya know, since no one is over here but her.
Carmine: Yeah sure. I'm sure we'll do something. BYE!
Everyone said goodbye and they left. No one was in the apartment but Shirley and Carmine.
Carmine: So, do you mind if I keep you company?
Shirley: No, it's fine.
They walk over to couch. When they sit down Carmine slips his arm around Shirley's waist.
Carmine: Shirl, something isn't right.
Shirley: I know.
Carmine: I mean, all these years, we never really-
Shirley: I know.
Carmine: And I don't wanna pressure you-
Shirley: I know.
Carmine: But ya know, if you ever wanted to-
Shirley: Yeah,
Carmine: Well, I'm ready when you are.
Shirley: Well, I'm glad you are the way you are. If you know what I mean. I'm glad you have waited and everything.
Carmine: Well, to tell you the truth, I kinda felt like you do about the whole thing. I mean, thinking about it is different then when you are really well ya know, about to or something.
Shirley smiled at him and kissed him on the cheek. They looked back at each other and started to make out. They wrapped their arms around each other and sat there for a long a time, until they started to get up and walk up the stairs still kissing. When they got there, they slammed the door and were up against it, still kissing. They started to peel each other's clothes off.
Next scene: It is about 4:30 in the morning and Carmine has his arm wrapped around Shirley, as they are under the covers together.
They both to wake up.
Carmine: Well, that little talk went far!
Shirley: Yeah.
She smiled.
Carmine: Well, so, this is kind of a bad question, but how was it?
Shirley smiled and turned around to Carmine, then started to kiss him. They stopped short, I'll take that as a good. They started again.
It was about 12:30, lunch time. Shirley and Carmine were both sitting at the table. They felt like husband and wife since there was no one else there and of course the obvious. All of the sudden Lenny and Squiggy come bursting through the door. They were out of breath.
Lenny: we need to talk to you two.
Squiggy: I'll take Carmine you take Shirley.
Lenny: Wow that's generous of you Squig.
Squiggy: Well I'm paying you back for what you did for me last week. Remember? Lola?
Lenny: Oh yeah!
Shirley: Will you get on with it!?
Lenny: Yeah yeah!
Lenny grabbed Shirley by the arm and Squiggy grabbed Carmine by the arm and they went in separate directions. Lenny pulled Shirley out on the balcony and Squiggy was heading up stairs with Carmine. They slammed the door to the bedroom and the doors on the balcony.
Shirley: What is it?
Lenny: Ok, well we was thinkin' we could have a man to man and woman to man talk with you guys.
Shirley: What for? What about? Are one you in trouble?
Lenny: No
Shirley: Well, what then?
Lenny: Well, Laverne was tellin' me that you and Carmine needed some time alone together-
Shirley: Yeah, so get out!
She started to push him towards the glass doors, but he pushed her back.
Lenny: Listen will ya? Now, was gonna ask ya… well…
HE whispered something in her ear, and she hit his arm.
Shirley: LENNY! Lenny: Well, we need information.
Shirley: FOR WHAT?
Lenny: Well- Shirley: No, ya know what? Just get out and… don't be stupid! You are a very smart person, I know, of that!
She looks away as if she were just saying that.
Shirley: Anyway, think before you speak! Now goodbye! Lenny opened the door and walked out and Squiggy came flying out of the room with Carmine behind him. They left. Carmine and Shirley just stood there with their hands on their hips, shaking their heads.
Next Day
Shirley was sitting on the couch with Mrs. Babish, talking about what they thought Laverne and her father were doing in Italy, feeling bad because they didn't get to go. Then, Carmine came running in the door. Shirley and Mrs. Babish looked up startled.
Carmine (out of breath): Mrs. Babish, could you excuse us for a minute?
Mrs. Babish: Oh, yes see you later guys!
Shirley: Carmine what's the matter with you? Were have you been?
Carmine: Oh, I was just at home, thinking, and I thought I might tell you what I was thinking about.
Shirley: You came up here just to tell me what you were thinking?
Carmine: Well… every thought counts!
Shirley: Sure! What were thinking?
Carmine: Well, ya know the other night?
Shirley: Yep.
Carmine: Well, why did we actually do… it?
Shirley: What do you mean?
Carmine: well, did we do it because we felt guilty or because we really love each other enough?
Shirley: What are you trying to say?
Carmine: I'm just saying, I think that we did it because we felt guilty. I mean, don't you think that if we were really in love we wouldn't have to do it just because no one was home or because we felt guilty or something?
Shirley: Well, I guess.
They stood there for a moment, not looking at each other, just thinking.
Shirley: So what are we going to do?
Carmine: I don't know. I mean, we do all this stuff, but, what about us ya know?
Shirley: Well, maybe we really don't love each other.
Carmine: Maybe not.
They didn't want to believe it but the knew that it was sort of true. Carmine and Shirley started to become sad and depressed at the moment and Shirley was trying not to cry. They didn't know they would do.
Carmine: So, what is this supposed to mean?
Shirley: Maybe, we just weren't meant for each other.
Carmine: Maybe.
Shirley: I think you better leave Carmine.
Carmine: Yeah.
Carmine left and Shirley stood there for a second thinking about what just happened then she walked slowly up stairs with tears streaming down her cheeks. As Carmine walked home, he began to fill up with tears as well.
Next day
Shirley is sitting at the kitchen table, wondering how Laverne was, trying to keep her mind off of Carmine. Then she heard a familiar knock. Carmine. She got up slowly and walked to the door to answer it.
Shirley: HI.
Carmine: Shirl, I was thinking some more, and I want to think about what we said yesterday. When we said that maybe we weren't meant for each other? Well, how could that be? All these years wasted? I don't think so. We wouldn't have still been going together and we wouldn't have been jealous when the other had a new boyfriend or girlfriend if we weren't really meant for each other.
Shirley: Well, I'm glad you brought that to my attention.
They were still standing at the door.
Carmine: So I take back what I was thinking yesterday. I think we did it because we were ready. I guess it is kind of one of those things that's real awkward and once you get to talking about it seems like you're in the mood ya know? I mean, with a certain person of course!
She smiled.
Shirley: I agree with you completely!
They wrapped their arms around each other and started to kiss. He came in the door and they slammed it behind them.
Laverne's arrival day.
Everyone is waiting at Laverne and Shirley's house for Frank and Laverne to arrive. When they open the door, they all start to get excited and say hello and welcome them home. After everyone left it was just Laverne and Shirley.
Shirley: So how was it Laverne?
Laverne: It was great! Our relatives are very Italian though.
Shirley: What is that supposed to mean?
Laverne: Oh nothing. SO what did you do?
Shirley: Oh nothing. Just waited for you to come back.
Laverne: Oh come on!
Shirley: Well, maybe I did a little.
Laverne: A little? Come on, don't make me have to go and ask Carmine
Laverne and Shirley start to carry her suite cases up stairs as Shirley starts to tell Laverne everything.
