Laverne wheeled herself down the hallway with the frantic enthusiasm of an Olympian.

"Laverne!" Shirley hissed, shuffling to a stop and grabbing the handles of Laverne's wheelchair. "Slow down!"

"What?! Shirl, Len's on the other side of those doors! He's waitin' fer me..."

"You might not recognize him; he could be swollen, grotesque, even!"

"Shut up! He's Len! That's all I care about!"

She rushed into the room, and the sight of her boyfriend swiftly took Laverne's breath away.

Lenny stared at the television, thrumming his fingertips against the cast on his ribs. He looked tired, bored, and even disgusted. He leapt upward at the sight of her. "Vernie!"

"Len!" She tried to get out of her chair but slumped weakly back down into it. They both settled for simply holding hands.

"Vernie...Did you see Squig?"

She nodded. "He's doin' better, Len." She lied.

"How's Carmine?"

She took a deep breath.

"Aww no-" His eyes filled with tears. "Carmine? Who else?"

"Dave and Kevin. The bus driver. He was drunk, Len." She sniffled. "Howd he get booze?"

"Kevin had some." Lenny said bitterly. "He was a fuckin' lush." He sunk back against the bed. "Oh, God, Carmine."

"Shhh." She poked Shirley, who stood, her eyes filled with tears, behind Laverne's wheelchair. "Lift me up!" She hissed. The brunette grasped Laverne's meaning, tried to cup her beneath ticklish underarms, and finally hoisted her against Lenny's body. Though her head swam, she took his hand, and he carefully stroked her broken digits. "It's gonna be okay."

"It ain't ever gonna be okay. Not ever." He whimpered.

"Len. Listen to me. You know how we had to sing?"

He nodded his head childishly.

She took a deep breath, clearing the fog before her eyes, before singing. "Baby I'm Yours...And I'll Be Yours..."

"...until the mountains crumble to the sea-" His voice cracked as it stretched for the high note.

"...yours until eternity..."

"...baby, I'm yours." They concluded together.

"See, I'm yours. I ain't goin' nowhere." She touched her belly, but he didn't notice. "I can't go nowhere now, anyway."

"Yeah, you're all banged up."

"I'm hurt the least out of all of us." She sniffled. "I hate the traction; I wanna hold you."

"Cmmere, then."

"I can't...I'll."

"Laverne DeFazio; since when do you care about 'tractions?"

Laverne shook her head, climbing up into the bed. Lenny's embrace was weak, but filled with a restrained love.

"Len? I got somethin' to tell ya."

"What?"

"It's good news."

"Really?" His voice brightened.

"I'm gonna have a baby."

He froze against her.

"Len?"

"Are ya kiddin' me?"

"Nope."

He kissed her then. Deeply, warmly.

"Then I got another reason to live."
