****
The first thing she ever loved was a music box. A big, pink music box, with a ballerina en pointe on the cover. And whenever she opened it, a bunch of tiny chimes would play "Tiny Dancer."
Bluejean Baby
L.A. Lady
It's so special to her because that song was, and still is, her parent's song. The morning she was born, live and wiggling into her father's hands, the box had entered her life, a special gift from her father to her mother.
From the day she screamed her first breath, every little milestone she passed proved a cause for celebration. The jewel of her parent's life, from day one. Her first lost tooth was reason enough for a trip to the movies. Her mamma's best friend always insisted that she was spoiled, causing her mother to declare her friend a silly.
They had created a haven for her in their little house in the Canyon; a bright pink bedroom coated in Barbie dolls and books, ballerina posters and teddy bears.
When she knew no one was looking, she would pick up her teddy bear, open the box, and just start dancing.
Seamstress for the Band
Pretty Eyes
Her favorite fairytale centered around the story of her parent's marriage. She understood that, once upon a time, a beautiful lady had met what she thought was a toad. It took more than five kisses to turn that toad into a prince, she said.
She thought that the story about her momma flying the plane was far more interesting. Even her daddy still didn't believe that one.
The real story, supplied by Aunt Shirley, told her that her daddy had chased her mommy across the country, and that, for a long time, they were just friends. In fact, she almost didn't listen to him; she had almost married another guy. Then there was something about a rainstorm, a car, and Elton John...when she asked to hear more about it, her Aunt Shirley would blush and tell her to ask her mother.
Her mother never would tell her, either.
Pirate Smile
You'll Mary a Music Man
She knew that her mother had witnessed her father's musical career from the sidelines; much to her disappointment. Then her father had stepped aside to let her mother shine as security for the governor.
That was when they made their first baby...not her, she knew that. That baby was buried in the cemetery, with Grandpa Frank. They visited them every Memorial Day, and her mamma and daddy would cry.
When she asked what happened to the baby, her mamma told her that her body couldn't handle keeping a baby inside of it; when this confused her all the more, she then received a very frank explanation of the birds and the bees.
She still didn't quite believe that birds could do THAT with bees. Maybe her daddy was wrong..but her daddy was never wrong.
Ballerina,
You Must Have Seen Her
She often felt very lucky, something that her parents often described her as being. And when her daddy and mamma hugged her, that was something she knew very well.
Dancing In The Sand
The music box wound itself down to a stop. By then, she had drifted asleep, her hands filled with frilly pink covers and her head in the lap of Mu-Shu Puppy, the stuffy her Aunt Shirley had mailed her all the way from Taiwan.
And Now She's In Me
Always With Me
"Is she asleep, Len?" Her mother asked quietly.
"Yup," He smiled.
"Ya shouldn't watch her like that, Len," Laverne teased gently, "Yer gonna give her a complex."
Lenny's smile was sweet as he closed the door, "I just can't believe she's real."
Laverne smiled, "We're all here, Len," She wrapped her arms around his neck.
Truthfully, wishes and dreams had come true in the form of their daughter. And neither Kosnoski could ask for anything more in life.
Tiny Dance In My Hand
Miracles existed. Their faith had been rewarded.
The future lay in Gianna's hands.
