"Come on!" Laverne shouted, pounding against the door.

"Mrs. Aricolia, please!" Lenny added. A long silence passed before the door opened.

"I'm sorry...it's a bit of a shock to see you."

"I understand." Laverne said. She admitted them to the living room. Laverne sucked in a deep breath; photos of a little boy hung everywhere.

A boy with her green eyes.

"Robert had a good life." She said. "Wonderful, for most of it."

"I see.." She settled down into a chair. "What did he like?"

"Airplanes. Cooking. And at the end of his life, sniffing glue."

Laverne winced.

"Would you like to see his room?"

***

A teenagerly mess greeted them. Old posters of Axl Rose and Ozzy Osbourne hung from the walls, and a poster of Cindy Crawford.

Lenny shadowed Laverne as she examined her surroundings.

"What happened to him?"

"He fell in with the wrong crowd." She shrugged. "His father and I, we couldn't control him at the end."

"What...what happened?"

"I don't know if you want to hear."

"It can't be that bad."

"It is."

"Tell me."

She placed an open palm on the rafters, tears leaking from her eyes. "He hung himself. Hung himself from the rafters."
