Laverne froze, alarmed by the sudden appearance of her daughter, "Honey, where'd you come from?"
Lea smiled, "I think you know that, Mom. What's going on?"
Laverne dashed away her tears, "Nah, nothing real big." She and Lenny exchanged a glance.
She sighed, "Just tell me. Is it Uncle Squiggy?" She worried.
"No, he's OK." She sighed, "This is gonna be a big shock.....When I was sixteen...I had a baby."
Lea's jaw dropped, "Man, times don't change."
"That's all you can say?"
Lea sighed, "Just that I can understand. 'Cause it's happened to a lot of my friends."
"I contacted the orphanage, where I gave him up...and this is the address they gave me."
Lea grinned, "Cool." She picked up her books, "I gotta lot of homework to do." Underneath her flip response were teary, frightened eyes.
"Are you sure you don't wanna..."
"I'm fine!" she insisted, heading upstairs, "Just fine..."
Lenny frowned after their daughter, "You sure she's not on drugs?"
Laverne nodded. "Len...I guess I gotta tell you who the baby's father is."
He nodded, "I'd like to know..."
She looked into his eyes, "Promise me you won't get mad."
"Vernie, it was almost..." he thought, "Well, a long time ago."
Laverne sighed, "Don't be jealous..."
"Why would I be jealous."
"Because," She braced herself, then said it, "It was Carmine."
