"Vernie..." Lenny wrapped his arm around Laverne. "I dunno how it happened. We was careful..."
She nodded. "I thought it was safe, it's my fault."
He gently held her to his chest. "Ain't no one's fault." He wiped away her rolling tears. "This is the best news! We'll go home, and I'll do something..."
"No. No, Len, we ain't going anywhere. You worked for years to get seen in this business. The tour's only for two more months..."
"Yer sick as a dog every day!"
"And we don't have ta worry about what that means til it's over." She sighed. "My pop's up fer election in the fall. It's a good excuse to be in California when the babies'll be born."
His eyes darkened. "You gotta be careful, Vernie." His hand rested over her stomach. "You got my whole world."
She nodded, resting her head against his shoulder...all the while thinking to herself that it might be better if she wasn't pregnant at all.

"Flight number four." Shirley said, staring intently at the note in her hand as they headed for the arrival gate. Carmine shlepped behind her, weighed down by a sleeping Veenie.
"Things've gotta be bad if he got a red-eye out." Carmine noticed.
"It's not easy to be a good parent the first time out. Veenie was a learned science for me."
"Heh, I missed out on those days. Walter must have some funny stories about..."
"No."
"...I should ask him when -"
"NO!" She sighed her agitation, checking her watch. "It's one, the flight should be disembarking now..."
True to her word, a flood of people poured from the designated departure gate. Squiggy was instantly noticeable by the offended glares shot in his direction as he trundled toward Shirley.
"Hello. I dunno what to do. I'm a lousy dad." He said, shoving Moth into Shirley's arms.
"You're not a lousy dad!" Shirley contradicted, cradling the baby. "Where's Rhonda?"
"She wouldn't get outta bed. Her doctor said she'll be better after the pills kick in, but I ain't sitting around for it. The kid won't shut up, and it can't feel too good if it's cryin' so much."
"We'll figure it out." Shirley said. Squiggy mumbled something unintelligible and shoved his hands into his pockets.
Shirley shifted the baby in her arms. "But you have to do half of the work."
She gently slapped the baby on her back, expelling a burp. She was returned to Squiggy's arms, cooing happily, leaving him to stare quizzically at Shirley's back.

"Ragazze e signori: Leather ed il Leatherettes!!"
Laverne shouted, clapping, trying to bounce but finding that it wasn't conducive to her nausea. As the curtain rose she recognized Lenny's feet before she saw the rest of them. His customary wink made her smile, as he struck out the opening notes to "Stumblin' In."
Pleasure swam over Laverne; it may not have been Lenny's song, but Leather had insisted he try out this new duet with her.
Laverne became enraptured by the music, but kept a constant awareness of her surroundings. Paranoia over the smallness of the club and the drunken rowdiness of the Italian fans had set in.
A flash of metal caught her eye. In the minute between realizing that it was a switchblade, and that the person was moving toward the stage, she threw herself against the person.
Sending them sprawling to the ground.
