"Shirl, I thought this was gonna be a name-only thing!"
Shirley Ragusa frowned at Laverne's merry tone. She seemed all-too pleased by the fact that she and Carmine had consummated their marriage, and were now, proverbially, stuck with each other.
"Laverne, you know as well as I do that Walter's lawyers needed to be made aware that this was a full, happy marriage. I just pushed the issue."
"I bet Carmine's just happy that he doesn't have blue balls anymore."
Shirley's voice crackled over the transatlantic line. "What was that?"
"Nothing!" Laverne said. "I just need a little laugh, Shirl."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot about your strep throat. Don't let me keep you on the line..."
"Don't worry about it, Shirl. They've got some great drugs here."
"Laverne!"
"Antibiotics. Geez! I've been on 'em for a three days, and I'm already almost over it."
"That's good. I think."
"Just in time, too. Paris, the City of Lights."
"That sounds so romantic! You lucky girl."
"Eh," Laverne shrugged. "Now that I'm healin' up, I'll make it the most romantic place in the world if it kills me."
"God willing."
"Night, Shirl."
"Night, Vernie."
Laverne hung up the phone, pirouetting on the tips of her toes. She felt a thousand times better than she had the week before, and now she could wear the sherbet-orange dress she had bought for the Leatherette's debut. The skirt swirled beautifully around her, which meant that it would catch Lenny within her spell.
He came out of the bathroom and grinned.
"Like it?"
"Uh-huh." He picked her up by the waist and held her over his head.
"Lenny!"
"Paris! That means we're really gonna...you know." He blushed. "You sure you feel okay?"
"Oh yeah."
"And it's safe?"
She thought for a moment. "Yes."
"Then," He grabbed her purse before placing her on the floor. "Let's go!"

"Squiggles, darling?"
Squiggy popped his head into his master bedroom. "Rhonda?"
"Could you get me some ice cream, dear?" She turned back to the phone. "No, Sid, I can do it. Just give me a month to get the baby weight off...no, I was not at death's door a month ago. Damn it!" She hung up the phone, and when Squiggy returned with the ice cream he found her staring at the ceiling.
"My career is nothing." She said, very dramatically. "And now my pajamas are wet..." Her eyed widened.
"Want me to get the car?"
"Get the car."

Lenny pulled down the sheets. "You sure?"
"Len, stop treating me like I'm a piece of glass." The Champaign she had drunk was turning her into a bold
He winced at her scolding, tucking her beneath the covers and then wrapping his arms around her.
"Go on."
"Are you sure it's safe."
"Len, it couldn't be safer."
He shrugged and sealed their fate with a kiss.
