They had been driving for three hours when Squiggy pulled off the road, claiming he had to re-oil his hair worm.

"It's startin' to drip in my eyes," he complained, climbing out of the truck. The gas station was clean and surprisingly neat, so Laverne and Shirley decided to stretch their legs while Lenny filled up the tank.

Next door to the filling station was a small country store. Both girls decided to head in and check out the scenery. The number of pictures they took were incalculable. Laverne took a shot of some flowers, and Shirley photographed a little girl picking up an ice cream bar.

"Boy, Laverne," Shirley sighed, as they left the place, each with an ice cream cone piled to the brim with frozen chocolate cream. "This sure is a cute little town."

"Yeah, and the benches are made of real wood, not plastic!" She patted the park bench as she sat down, crossing her tanned legs and enjoying the play of a breeze across her legs.

"Too bad we can't stay here," she sighed. "I bet I could land a doctor in two seconds flat."

"Or at least trip over a married one." Laverne smiled welcomingly at a tall, lanky cowboy with dark hair who passed them by, She grinned up at him and he smiled back, tipping is cowboy hat. "Afternoon, ma'am."

Laverne grinned. "D'you hear that, Shirl? Ma'am."

Shirley nodded appreciatively. "It sounds so much nicer than 'hey girlie.'"

"Hey, girlies," Squiggy said, striding up, his hands tucked into his jean pockets. Somehow he had already lined up a cowboy outfit for himself; a shirt, black with gray stripes, and a white cowboy hat. "Let's haul cattle."

Laverne winkled her nose. "He's such a gentleman," she complained.

"I wish we could stay a little longer," Shirley sighed, licking her cone as they headed back to the ice cream truck.

"Yeah, it's a nice dream, but we've got an even bigger dream ahead of us. Hollywood."

"Swimming pools." Shirley sighed.

"Movie stars," Laverne agreed.

"Girls who don't know how to say no, on account of them not speaking English."

Laverne rolled her eyes, but Shirley sighed, "Squig, women speak English in California."

"Not in the great state o' Tijuana!"

Lenny grinned as he pushed down his own cowboy hat - black with cactuses on the brim lined in rhinestones. "Yeah, they don't know the meaning of the word Si!"

"See what?" Squiggy wondered.

"Wouldja forget about me and turn on the car."

Squiggy did as Lenny asked, but the engine didn't turn over. In fact, its gears ground ominously. The boys frowned at it in confusion, but Laverne turned to Shirley in excitement.

"Guess you're gonna get your wish, Shirl!"
