SPOILLER/SUMMARY: Laverne and Lenny's daughter may be a great cellist in the making; one whose intelligence makes them feel both blessed and mystified. Can they possibly let her go to New York alone?'

For Chesh

****

Strolling the streets of his neighborhood, Lenny looked at the fancy but rapidly outmoding homes around him and remembered the high life he had slowly fallen out of.

Everything had been perfect when he and Laverne had gotten together. That alone was beyond his expectations for a good life. But then he had been invited to engineer an album for Leather Tuscadaro.

Working with Leather had been an extreme pleasure. He always liked the feisty girl, and she had always seemed to enjoy his company. When the record came out and went gold, Lenny was suddenly in demand.

He and Laverne were high-society types for five years, a role that neither of them felt completely comfortable with. Lenny, after working for the Rolling Stones, finally had enough money to buy his own studio. Then came Squiggy, who demanded a place in his best friend's studio and a job at his best friend's side. Lenny had been somewhat reluctant to do this, but Squiggy, being his best friend, was undeniable.

Things went beautifully. Aria had been born into a luxurious home, afforded to her by two working parents who loved her deeply. Things were perfect.

Until the stock market crash.

In 1986, Lenny lost everything in a few bad blue-chip stocks. The studio suffered, the equipment becoming old and outmoded. The family began living within its means, which meant moving to a poorer neighborhood and a smaller house.

But the stress got to Lenny. He began smoking and eating too much, eventually gaining over 100 extra pounds.

Which lead to his heart attack on the kitchen floor at the age of forty-five. Right in front of his impressionable daughter.

Guilt still assailed him whenever he thought of Aria's screams. That he had survived was her only balm, but she had all but given her life in the process.

Given her life. It was so incredibly unfair.

Lenny turned on his heel suddenly. No, he couldn't let his daughter sacrifice her chance, perhaps the greatest chance any Kosnowski had ever been given!

As he marched back to the house, a new purpose filled his step. He would get Aria to Interlochan. For her own good.
