“Do you like me?  Y-E-S.”

Shirley Feeney peered down at the cootie catcher she’d made with intense scrutiny.  “Now pick a color.”

“Blue.”

She lifted a tab.  “You like Lenny!” Shirley giggled.  “HEE HEE!  Can you imagine being in love with Lenny Kosnowski?”  She took a sip of her malted and scanned the Pizza Bowl for Lenny and Squiggy.

Laverne stuffed her hands into the pockets of her dungarees.  “Uh…well..”

Shirley froze.  “Laverne,” she chuckled nervously.  “You can’t possibly…Lenny Kosnowski?!” she cried out.  “Of all people?”

He came up behind her, shyly pecked her on the cheek, then waved Shirley goodbye.

“I don’t believe it!”

“He’s taking me to the sock hop,” Laverne admitted, her eyes sparkling.  Shirley let out a wail and she rolled her eyes.  “C’mon, Shirl; it’s my turn,” she picked up the catcher and grinned.  “Maybe you’ll end up with Squiggy…”
