FEEDBACK: PLEASE?!
SETTING IN TIMELINE: Milwaukee, pre-Lenny's Crush
SPOILLER/SUMMARY: What appears to be a severe case of the flu leaves Lenny with strange powers, leaving others to question what the true nature of a miracle is.

Notes: The conclusion!

****

You did this.

Lenny watched the unconscious visage of Shirley Feeney, feeling horribly guilty. How had his powers turned so sharply against him?

Laverne held Shirley's hand. "Shirl, you gotta snap out of it."

"Do ya think she's gonna?"

Laverne shook her head. "I dunno, Len; the doctors keep sayin' 'maybe'."

Lenny groaned. "This is my fault!"

"No, Len, don't say that!"

"I wished Shirl'd shut up! And now she's here!"

Laverne paused. "Well, I don't think ya-"

"I'm sure," Lenny turned, heading out of Shirley's hospital room.

"Len?! Where are ya goin'?!"

But he had dissapeared.

***

Lenny felt the wind whip against his hair. Funny, he had thought he'd put enough gel in his hair that morning. Clinging to the filthy molding of Milwaukee General, he stared out at the thousands of faces below him. They were all screaming; some for him to jump. Others for him not to jump. The confusing muddle they made left him clinging to the wall, staring down at the rabble below.

"Lenny! Lenny!"

He tried to turn his head, but the wind was too harsh. "Laverne?"

"Len, don't do it! Don't kill yerself!"

He shook his head. "I gotta, Vernie."

"Why?!"

"I got the power ta kill, Vernie! You know how hard it is to live with that?!"

"Len, Shirl passed out 'cause she has a blood deficiency!"

His eyes widened. "Ya mean..."

"You got nothin' to do with it!"

His eyes had filled with tears.

"Come in, Len; I don't wanna have to do this without ya."

"You-ya still love me?"

She nodded. "I meant every word."

Cautiously, he crawled toward the window. He felt something beneath his knee buckle, and was astonished to see the walkway crumbling.

"Jump, Len! Jump!"

He took a deep breath before jumping toward the ledge. His feet cleared the sill seconds before he collapsed into the hospital's corridor.

Laverne embraced Lenny, kissing every square inch of his face. He noticed that she was crying, and tried to gently mollify her tears.

"Mister Kosnowski, may we have a word with you?"

He glanced into the face of a suited official with a nametag. Definitely a hospital official, whose stern demeanor didn't comfort him.

"Sure-" He didn't let go of Laverne.

"Your healing powers interest us. So many patients could benefit; whole lives could be changed. Perhaps you would be interested in working for the hospital?"

"Real, live hospital work?" He gasped. Laverne's eyes shimmered with proud tears. "Sure!"

"Can you start tomorrow?"

Lenny nodded. He left them to be, and Laverne proudly held her boyfriend.

"I always knew you were great, Len."

"Yeah?" They strolled in the direction of Shirley's hospital room.

"Yeah!" They leaned against an open doorway. "I just didn't think you'd be the one to change my whole wide world."

He pulled her into the room with a delighted hoot.
