The moment after her skin stops tingling and her head stops buzzing, she opens her eyes.
And, he’s there, eyes still closed, body still tense, waiting.
The moment after she says yes, her mind is racing and she can’t stop giggling.
And, he’s there, jumping up and down and hugging her and giggling with her.
The moment after she throws her bouquet, she pinches herself, a reminder that it’s real.
And, he’s there, privately toasting with his best friend and smiling at her.
The moment after the pleasure, her heart is still racing and her legs are still trembling.
And, he’s there, panting her name and his love.
The moment after the last push, she hears the cries of her first child and the sobs of her only husband.
And, he’s there, with a wet face, kissing her sweaty forehead and whispering his joy.
The moment after she blows out the candles, her best friend hugs her and she’s thankful they didn’t put the same number of candles on the cake as the years under her belt.
And, he’s there, taking pictures and making jokes about fire hazards.
The moment after she finishes the lunch dishes, she walks to the backdoor and smiles as the sun warms her face.
And, he’s there, in the backyard, swinging their grandchild to sound of laughter.
The moment after she closes her eyes, she lets out her last breath, the one she’s been holding all her life.
And, he’s there.
